When I first came across this quote, it wasn’t the wording itself that shocked me but rather who was saying these words: Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL for the more commonly known (and easier to pronounce) acronym. A coveted fashion empire, YSL is known around the globe for its iconic couture line and beauty prestige. It seems almost ironic that a designer would be caught praising something other then the product they have to offer.
But YSL couldn’t be more correct.
The beauty of fashion is created first and foremost by the passion of the designers. That first thought, that turned into a glimpse of hope, that finally lead to a mere piece of their passion that you now call your favorite top, skirt or heel. So naturally, this leads me to question what it is I am passionate about, and am I pursuing it or just taking the easy way out?
Here at Up, we urge you to find what it is that you are passionate about, and to follow through with it. Whether it be casual doodles or sketches in your Microbiology notebook, walks across campus at dusk to capture the twilight images on camera, or even listening to music, there is no right or wrong answer. The only thing wrong is not knowing what you are passionate about, or worse not pursuing it because you are, for whatever reason, afraid.
April is a month of renewal; what better time to renew your passion for life. Don’t take the easy way out - take the chance. You never know what could become of it.
