UPsessions: A Masculine Touch

By: Danielle Antony

Some of the newest trends appearing in fall lines are incorporating masculine style with a feminine twist. Designers are introducing a style with a strong emphasis of sporty-chic, studs, and pantsuits.

Athletic straps are intertwining with the basics of a stiletto. Elle featured “Gym Dandy” stilettos, with a sporty makeover, in their section of upcoming fall accessories in their most recent issue. As with most trends in fashion, some variations work and others are a lost cause. Pierre Hardy’s lace-up boot takes on the trend and incorporates block coloring with elastic lacing.  If you are looking for a way to stand out, I would highly recommend searching for a similar style to Pierre Hardy’s. You could easily make this style of shoe a statement factor to a simple outfit.

Pantsuits are a fashion reoccurrence and are making their return to the top, only now with bolder patterns. They were one of the top trends of fall fashion lines from fashion week in March and are starting to be recognized. It is an easy piece to get wrong, however when worn and made right, is incredibly chic and sexy.  A pantsuit screams power by incorporating statement patterns in fabrics with feminine touch, like silk. Below are pantsuits (from left) from fall collections by Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, and Rochas that show the look polished and perfected

Patterned pants are slowly becoming a widespread Upsession for the near future as they make their way into stores we would more readily shop at. J. Crew is a great place to look for this fall style. Pictured below is an example of what they have to offer online and in stores with their capri and cropped pant.

Now, no matter how “girly” you would consider your style, definitely invest in some sort of hard wear this fall. I’m talking studs. They are everywhere in accessories right now. Purses, shoes, and jewelry, are where you’ll find them most. I’ll admit, the idea of wearing studs seems intimidating and maybe a little too hard-core, but it is a high-fashion style statement yet again inspired by masculinity. If you don’t want to go all studs out, I recommend finding an essential accessory with a subtle touch of stud. Like I said, purses, jewelry, and shoes are the perfect place to look.

Stay true to your look, but add a little spice. Above are two examples from ASOS (left) and Alloy.com. A little goes a long way with this trend.

The same simplicity stays true for purses and shoes as well. Below, from Steve Madden , is a perfect example of a way to keep in touch with this most recent UPsession in a subtle way.
