The Philosophers

What starts out as a simple class experiment, quickly changes their lives forever.

The film is set in Jakarta, Indonesia, at an international school. I’m going to go ahead and assume this is a philosophy class - I think it’s a pretty safe bet. Anyway, the teacher gives his students (20 seniors) their final assignment:

It is the end of the world - the apocalypse - and there is a bunker. However, it can only hold 10 people. Each draw a profession/station/characteristic out of a box. Some are farmers, soldiers, poets...you get the gist.

They then have to decide, based on the information given to them, and “logic,” as the teacher says, who goes into the bunker, and therefore survives, and who will perish.

From the looks of the trailer, and the minimal, additional, information found on the film, there are various scenarios (different types of apocalypses and locations) that the students are presented with. It seems each student, or group of students, get to be the decision-makers within these scenarios. This could be a false assessment, but again, I’m only working off of what I’ve found. Just a theory.

The students seem to eventually turn on the teacher, played by James D’Arcy, in various scenarios. They also may turn on each other, at various points. Amongst deception and violence, there also seems to be love affairs between student -  a little bit of action to say the least.

The film boasts an incredible cast of young entertainers, with new and familiar faces. Bonnie Wright and Freddie Stroma (Ginny Weasley, and Cormac McLaggen, the Harry Potter series); Daryl Sabara (Juni Cortez, Spy Kids), Jacob Artist (Jake Puckerman, Glee); Katie Findlay (Maggie Landers, The Carrie Diaries); and James D’Arcy, mentioned above,(Sixsmith, Cloud Atlas, and Anthony PerkinsHitchcock).

The film is an independent film, produced by An Olive Branch Productions, and SCTV. It has a handful of distributors, and is currently awaiting an official release date. Although there are a few signs that point to September of this year.
