Hansel And Gretel: Lights, Camera, Action

image

It’s not a surprise to see the Brothers Grimm fairy tales transformed from their original gore into bubbly, G-Rated kid-friendly films. Their newest trend, however, seems to be the exact opposite.

Similar to Snow White and The Huntsman and Red Riding Hood, another twist has been added to the story we heard as kids in the newest portrayal of sweet little Hansel and Gretel. Only now, the pair are witch bounty hunters.

“Sweet” is definitley not the first word that comes to mind when watching the preview of Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters staring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton. This dark revision of a classic tale comes to theaters January 25th and should be a thriller to remember.

New App for Manhattan Subway Elite

New York City is home to many, including America’s largest subway system.  Thanks to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, 5.5 million daily riders will have an easier time planning their commute.

The MTA released an app for passengers with iPhones and iPod Touch devices that give riders real-time train arrival information for selected routes of the subway systems on Friday.  It lets riders know the exact time of train arrivals, in hopes of reducing time spent waiting on the subway platform and announcing service delays and reroutes before fare is paid.

The new app covers roughly one-third of the subway system.  The remaining lines, which account for 60% of the system’s daily ridership, will not have signal systems that can generate the digital information needed for the app for years.  But hey…there are seven lines you can now track, saving you that 100-meter dash to your platform in heels.

Download MTA Subway Time at the App Store (don’t fret Android users; your app is on the way!)

New YSL Creative Director Makes Fashion History

Yves Saint Laurent’s new creative director, Hedi Slimane, is certainly making his mark within the iconic label as well as fashion history with his first ever women’s bag.

After boldly removing the Yvesfrom the label’s title, giving it the re-branded name Saint Laurent Paris, Slimane has already designed a piece that is likely to become a timeless classic; the Patient Zero handbag. The structured duffel shape has the clean lines of other popular luxury bags, but isn’t quite as stiff. Soon to be available in black, earth, dove white, and red, the casual-chic piece will be easily wearable with everyday clothing. Only time will tell if the Patient Zero will be the next ‘It’ bag, but judging by the look of it, we think it is safe to expect an instant sell out.

Although it has yet to be released to the public, photographers spotted Gwyneth Paltrow, a friend of Slimane, with the Spring 2013 must-have. Paltrow definitely won’t be the last celebrity we see sporting the bag!

The iconic duffle will undoubtedly appear all over tabloids and fashion magazines come Spring.

Who doesn’t like a new Kate Spade purse, or a brand new Mustang sitting in their drive way?
Well we do. And our home page is fresh and brand new too, which is just as exciting as a brand new Mustang…. (maybe!).
So what is different from yesterday you are wondering? Well, we have added two new tabs located on the left hand side. The first new tab is called “The Up Blog Staff”. Here, you can find our entire blogging staff, read about why they are so cool, and even get their email so you can ask your favorite blogger for advice on certain topics they write about, give them ideas for new stories, or just tell them how upsessed you are with what they do!
Our other new tab is “Updates and News”. In this tab, anything new with the blog or the magazine as a whole will be posted. This includes any events we will be hosting, updates to the magazine, and even staff opportunity information, such as hiring dates and information regarding becoming apart of Up.
We hope you like these updates and keep on reading :)
