Hey readers! My name is Danielle Antony. I am a junior from Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a strategic communications major and minors in marketing and IMS …so why UP? I have always loved writing and have discovered a new passion for fashion and style. This is why I’ve combined two of my favorite things into one by writing for UP’s blog.
I obviously have a style of my own, but I am always drawn to trying new things and adding to what I wear. Season by season, trends change and I love adapting to the newest “ins” and “outs”. Just as you would on your own, our blog makes it easier for you to keep up with new trends in the section I contribute to, UPsessions. I love using pictures of original outfits and combinations of various pieces to draw out the newest ideas. I hope you’ll reach out and share your thoughts as well as any ideas of trends you want to see in a post. Feel free to send me pictures too that inspire your own styles! My name is Sabrina Toms and I am a sophomore marketing major at Miami.
For as long as I can remember (yes, even when I wore Disney prints and overalls) I have had the strangest enthusiasm for fashion. Even as a child, I was eager to style my friends’ outfits and dig through my mom’s closet for vintage gems. This bazaar enthusiasm has grown into something more powerful and passionate. Now, with a more developed love for fashion and style, I could not be happier that I have this opportunity to exercise my strong visual aesthetic for Up Magazine’s Blog.

Hello Blogosphere! Ever since I was a little girl, a shy girl at that (which is hard for a lot of friends to fathom), I’ve always had a colorful eye and flair for finding unique pieces. This knack was definitely inspired by my Dad, who whenever we would be on vacation, would encourage me to find something (whether it be a dress, bag, or shoes) that I couldn’t locate anywhere else at home. The creativity and change associated with fashion are C words that I find myself craving in different regards, and also words that inspire me. All my life since second grade I was accustomed to wearing a uniform, which was the perfect opportunity for me to develop a unique style. Especially when it came to accessorizing, because that was pretty much the only way you could jazz up a plaid kilt and a Lands’ End polo.
All throughout school, writing has always been a passion and strong suit of mine. UP Magazine was a perfect opportunity to become involved on campus in the two avenues I loved- writing and fashion. Honestly, this magazine is a huge part of why I ended up choosing to attend Miami. No other university I had been interested in had a publication of this caliber. I was impressed with the content and originality of the magazine, and now am fortunate enough to call myself a writer and blogger for UP.
What I love about blogging, is that the power to inform is at your fingertips (literally). We all have the opportunity to choose what we think is hip, and as a result what our peers should be listening to, wearing, or reading about! What is so amazing about blogging, is that it has now developed into an actual career and something that can be done on a professional level. I am so looking forward to my second year on staff with UP as an incoming Junior with a focus in Mass Communication. I love suggestions, and if you’d like to hear more about a particular event or subject, please hit a sista up with content ideas! This summer, you can expect posts from me for “What’s Up” Wednesday’s and “Scene and Culture” Friday’s. Thanks to one of my summer internships at Full Picture, I am exposed to a variety of events in New York that I will most definitely be posting. Blogging for UP magazine provides me with a legitimate excuse for spending excessive amounts of time doing my favorite activity…. the ultimate search for the perfect accessory. Some may consider it procrastination, but it is a talent to develop a sharp eye that can spot the perfectly placed piece on the outfit that wouldn’t seem complete without it. UP is the perfect ensemble waiting for just the right accents, and blogging is giving away your best idea, knowing that even better ideas will return.

I am an Organizational Speech Communication major at Miami University.
