All Tied UP

The sweat and mess from the summer heat leaves hair frizzy and all out of sorts. A perfect disguise to this catastrophic knotty chaos is a simple hair style paired with a head scarf. It keeps that head of tangles out of your face and is a simple cure to the miserable humid air.

The Pinafore Comeback

image
A pinafore, more commonly known as a jumper over here in America, is a sleeveless dress with adjustable straps, meant to be worn over a blouse. The pinafore was originally worn for practical purposes, much like an apron. This spring designers have reinvented the pinafore for girls of the 21st century. Unexpected fabrics, such as leather and denim, along with glamorous details, like crystal embellishments and floral patterns, have updated the pinafore to one of this season’s must haves. Feel free to wear the updated pinafore dress by itself- the new versions no longer require a blouse or undershirt. When it finally gets warm, try this new shape as a trendy alternative to the sundress.

Palazzo, please

Flowy, wide leg trousers—otherwise known as palazzo pants—are making a re-appearance in the fashion world. Palazzo pants, which give the illusion of a maxi skirt, first came on the scene in the 1930’s, a favorite of classic movie stars such as Katharine Hepburn and Greta Garbo. The pants were a fashion staple in the 1960’s and 70’s- a symbol of free spirit-hippie style. The decade palazzo pants are more versatile and glamorous as ever.

These pants are just as easy to style as a maxi skirt. Because the pant is bottom heavy, balance the outfit with a close fitting top to maintain a sleek silhouette. With the new printed palazzo pants out this season, simply pair them with a solid color top. Any of the options shown below would work perfectly with a simple black or white tank. For those looking to try something other than maxi skirts or jeans this spring, palazzo pants are ideal.

Romantic Ruffles

Even though we are still stuck in cozy scarves and parkas, we can still dream of spring’s new batch of warm weather trends.

This season, designers were captivated by a flouncy, flamenco like style. Yes, girly-girls rejoice- we’re talking ruffles! The Latin influenced look has been spotted all over Spring 2013 runways and is expected to steal the style scene once the flower-filled season rolls around. The slightly frilly addition adds a touch of femininity to pieces that would otherwise be minimalistic. Try this fabulously playful look come spring!image

Argyle Madness

image

This funky geometric has been around since the first World War. First appearing in England before it made it’s appearance around the world.

The argylepattern is based on geometric shapes and lines. It’s intended to give the pattern a 3 dimensional feel to it, and also make the design look like it’s moving.

With it’s unique look, Argyle has showed us the reason it has lasted so long today. It’s a fun pattern to wear out, and can suit any uptown event nicely.

image

Sweaters and argyle certainly go hand in hand. Which is why the most commonly seen article is an argyle sweater.

You can certainly find other argyle items like socks, coats, and maybe even pants. But sweater and shirts are definitely the easiest to find, and wear.

This long-lasting design will still work wonders today, and give a bit of a classic look to any outfit you wear this season.

Ombre: Not Just For Your Hair

Ombre: the graduated variation in the saturation of monochromatic color. You could say it’s the tie dye of the new millennium. While this term may bring to mind the new trendy hairstyle, ombre has made recent appearance in art, accessories, home design, food, and of course, fashion. More subtle than color blocking and less boring than a single colored garment, ombre is the perfect option for anyone looking to experiment with color in their wardrobe.

A colored ombre garment is a statement piece; so let it speak for itself in the outfit. Any ombre garment simply needs to be paired with black jeans and neutral shoes. Try a flowy ombre dress or skirt for a night uptown with a black tank and a black leather jacket. Buy an ombre piece now, because it will easily transition to spring when the weather warms up.

A Pale Attraction

It’s true. For those of you readers who may always worry about having too fair of a skin tone, fret no more.

You can always resort to a self tanning lotion like the most popular one used, Jergens. However, why go through all of the trouble to make yourself look like someone you’re not when there is an even better alternative? Add to your wardrobe and embrace your natural tone with soft pinks and milky whites to highlight your feminine glow.

In the accessory world, go beyond the pale, and add volume with soft color pallets. Look for various types of accessories to add to an outfit from the array that Forever21 has to offer. Don’t be afraid to add in an accented color such as gold or tope for an extra pop to a particular piece. Adding pink allows you to be playful with your choices.

image

Forever21.com

Incorporate the pale trend with your clothing as well. NastyGal is a great place to check for a pinky flirty bottom or a sassy winter white top.

Just because you may have fairer skin than most, doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t utilize this trend. Make the end of the winter season worth your while and prove that fare tones are not a minority. Here’s to the return of natural beauty.
