Summer from the sixties

The summer runways are welcoming the sixties in a way that they are taking classic styles and silhouettes and incorporating them into trendy summer fashion! Big designers have been making the bold move and bringing a blast from the past trend in their shows! The trend blossomed in the spring and has evolved into summer fashion, becoming something that you should consider as your newest wardrobe addition! Fashion is ever changing but full circle at the same time, as we have seen trends recycled every generation. This is no exception! Playful patterns and sexy silhouettes are dominating summer fashion!

Black and white and read all over!

Everyone’s first thought for Autumn fashion is color, but this year if you look in any high fashion window, you’ll find that black and white is the color scheme to be lusted over. As you may know this is not a new trend, but one that was so loved it couldn’t help but be carried over to the next season.
I’ve recently been lucky enough to travel to some of the largest fashion capitals of the world; Paris, Venice and Rome. All major designers represented, such as Prada, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Celine, etc. proved that -from hand bags to blouses- black and white will make an obvious appearance this fall.

Keep the versatile black and white interesting this fall! To rock the look and stay fashion forward, try adding a pop of color or a patterned piece to a monochromatic outfit.

High on life

A trend that is definitely up & coming is the high waisted theme that is appearing more often in our lives.  We started with high waisted skirts, then moved to cut off denim shorts, and now it’s taking the bikinis by tropical storm! One of the designers for this new trend is swimsuit designer, Lilly Ghalichi, made famous by the E! show, Shahs of Sunset. Her swimgerie line can be found at havefaith.com, and these are just a few of her sky high suits!

And it takes a classier, ladylike stance towards less is more!  Backless, side cut outs, mid section cuts, and more, are seen on many websites we shop at, ranging from Tobi to Nordstrom!

Knuckle UP for summer

If you’re looking for a new way to freshen up your accesories, look no further. We all know that summertime is the season to shed a few layers of clothing and stack on your newest rings and bracelets. The knuckle ring is a great way to revamp your style on a college student’s budget. Because they are so up and coming they may be difficult to find in stores. But don’t worry! Here at UP we have done all the investigating for you and found some great places to do your shopping. Forever 21, Polyvore, Topshop, and even Etsy has great options!

Try adding this look with your regular rings and colorful bracelets or just keep it simple. Don’t forget to add a fresh manicure and summertime glow!

Caged and confined

From cage matches to caging animals, cages aren’t something we usually associate with fashion, but runways of spring 2013 forecasted a new, wild trend! Webbed patterns appeared multiple times on the spring runways, showing that your outfit can be free, even when it looks like it is held in captivity.  The netlike patterns that debuted this spring were seen on runways throughout the world, and were a perfect predicted trend for this summer season!

Fall Takes on a Delicate Edge

As we all take the highly anticipated plunge into our spring wardrobes, it’s the perfect time to embark on our pre-fall fashion forecasts! After combing through countless runway shows, we’ve established a glorious batch of trend takeaways that are sure to step on the gas to your fall fashion-fever.

One that was re-vamped and spun into pre-fall shows is lace. As you all have formerly known it as the ultimate feminine style, the use of lace will be a little less girly and a little more sinister come fall. Traditional sheer lace was modernized as it was used in a more severe setting on runways. Labels like Valentino, Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Michael Kors, and Diane Von Furstenberg integrated confectionery lace into their designs for the season.

Try combining this delicate fabric with edgier pieces for a completely seductive look this fall!

Watching Blake Lively behind the scenes for her new Gucci Premiere campaign has us falling in love with our favorite Gossip Girl blonde all over again. The campaign was featured in this month’s ELLE (which you can’t miss because Miss. Minaj rocks the cover).

What caught our attention were the floor length Gucci gowns with open backs and dramatic leg slits, and Lively’s side swept old-Hollywood inspired hair.

Formal season is coming up for many, and we think all you ladies should take a cue from Lively and play with bright red lips, waved hair, and floor length dresses for an effortlessly glamorous look.

Sublime Summertime

image

As if we couldn’t be more anxious for summer, this HOT runway trend will have you longing for pina coladas and poolside weather! Tropical prints, brilliant colors, and intricate details were unified on the runways for spring and summer collections. This easy, breezy trend creates an aloha feel that is sublime for summertime.

The warm-weather trend looks to be based on exotic Hawaiian styles, but there is some unmistakeable inspiration from other cultures as well. African and Ukrainian inspired detailing is referenced within the traditional island look. Despite its wild combinations, the style uniquely maintains an effortless look!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

As the end of winter nears, we will soon replace our heavy parkas with rain jackets of sorts. Instead of reaching for the expected trench this season, try rocking a sporty windbreaker.  Pair yours with leggings and your favorite sneakers, or juxtapose the coat with a sweater and flats!

Cutesy Kicks

After a few consecutive years of neutral shoes taking the spotlight, warm-weather shoe trends for 2013 will undoubtedly put some pep in your step. We’ve all observed the vintage inspired pointed toe comeback, and we’ve watched cap toes and bold colors adorn it…but a recent collaboration of two notoriously preppy labels has combined these runway trends with their classic styles to create the perfect leisure shoe for the spring and summer seasons.image

Keds partnered up with Kate Spade and designed these eight styles of covetable, girly-detailed sneakers. The limited edition collection includes chevrons, polka-dots, gingham, stripes and splashes of color! Whether they are paired with tailored shorts, a swingy skirt or a sundress, these cute kicks add a playfully feminine aesthetic. Softly pointed toes, color tipped laces and subtly printed sayings on the rubber midsoles uniquely identify this dainty version of classic lace-ups.

Try these oh-so-sweet sneaks this upcoming spring and summer with a fun graphic top or colorblocked with chino shorts!

Romantic Ruffles

Even though we are still stuck in cozy scarves and parkas, we can still dream of spring’s new batch of warm weather trends.

This season, designers were captivated by a flouncy, flamenco like style. Yes, girly-girls rejoice- we’re talking ruffles! The Latin influenced look has been spotted all over Spring 2013 runways and is expected to steal the style scene once the flower-filled season rolls around. The slightly frilly addition adds a touch of femininity to pieces that would otherwise be minimalistic. Try this fabulously playful look come spring!image

Effortlessly Chic

Whether it’s to mask a bad hair day or to save time during your morning routine, baseball hats have a place in everyone’s wardrobe.  This does not, however, include caps with your alma mater or sorority letters.  Try incorporating some personality into your “I slept in” outfit with these baseball caps:

Swimwear Stunners 2013

Its just about that time of year where the gyms hit maximum capacity and disgruntled sighs resonate in swim-shop fitting rooms. Yes…its finally SWIMSUIT SEASON.

Since we all want to look as fabulous as possible for our poolside partying and waterfront relaxing, its important that we stay ahead of the curve for the hottest swimwear styles of the season. Resort 2013 runway shows gave us an idea of what suits we should pre-order for our exciting getaways.

The biggest trends of the runways included high-waisted styles, shoulder emphasis, girly ruffles, and even some hot one-pieces! Each of these new styles is perfect for different body types, so don’t forget to choose one that flatters your figure! For petites, or anyone that would rather a bit more coverage, the high waist bottoms with a bikini top is perfect for you! Think “If you’re a bird, I’m a bird,” for this nostalgic 1940s look. image

Other looks like ruffles and embellished shoulders can emphasize your best parts for maximum flattery. If you are thin (or even feel disproportionate!) and want some filling out,  try suits with these attributes to balance your look!

image

image

Although designers’ 2013 collections are heavily based around bikinis, there is a bit more of the coverage trend in addition to high waist bottoms; one-pieces!
